DICE say that Battlefield 2042 will not be getting the leaked Santa skins

Yesterday members of the Battlefield 2042 subreddit spotted that a Santa Claus outfit for Boris was coming to the game as well as questionable Christmas jumper paint jobs for tanks and chopper. The leak got a lot of people annoyed with some ranting that the ‘real world’ atmosphere of the game would be ruined when twenty Santa’s are sprinting across the Battlefield. Others were felt that DICE should concentrate on fixing bugs rather than making digital jumpers for tanks.
DICE have taken to Twitter to respond and in short, you won’t be seeing any Santa’s in the game this year. Here is their statement:
Development for Live Service requires us to work months in advance, and enables us to have options when we reach key moments in our first year Today, we have other priorities, and so whilst we have the skins, we presently have no plans to utilize all of them this Holiday.
We also create unique cosmetics for single time use in special #Battlefield Portal modes to further enhance the fantasy in special events. Throughout our live service, you may occasionally encounter these mode locked cosmetics, which don’t impact the rest of the game.
It provides all of us working on #Battlefield with exciting new opportunities that let us explore with more creative freedom than before. Having you all along for the journey is something we don’t take for granted, and we’ll be grateful to hear your experience with those modes.
Earlier today EA has announced some big plans for the future of the Battlefield series, aiming to create a “connected Battlefield universe” of game experiences with Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella taking charge of the franchise’s future development.

In our Battlefield 2042 review we scored it a fair 6 out of 10, knocking points off for clunky design features, yet praising parts of the core tactical gameplay and the genius Battlefield Portal:
“There’s a good game to be found within the Battlefield 2042 and fun to be had as the spectacle of Battlefield’s signature gameplay is taken to new, more expansive heights, but it’s marred by a handful of unsuccessful gameplay design changes, hurriedly implemented features and bugs at launch.”
